Set in the gambling paradise of Fortune City, Dead Rising 2 introduces a new main character, Chuck Greene, and 1000’s of new zombies in this darkly comedic, no holds-barred action title.

Supernatural powers of philanthropy will converge at the Fremont Outdoor Movies on July 3 and 10^th to support Solid Ground’s efforts to feed hungry people and shelter homeless families.

“We love the work of Solid Ground. It provides shelter, food and other basic services to more than 58,000 families and individuals in need throughout King County EACH YEAR!” said Tonya Hennen. “We are pleased to be able to support this fun way to get involved in such meaningful work.”

This summer Zombies aren’t just walking for a chance to return the Guinness World Record to Seattle…AGAIN. No, Seattle’s Zombies are also walking for a great local charity to be more than mere eaters of the flesh, as Zombies are trying to raise money and food for local charities.

On July 10th, CoHo will try to bust its own record of donations to Solid Ground by matching all the door sales and donations for the night’s film Ghostbusters. Dead Rising‘s story centers on Frank West, a photojournalist who ends up trapped in a shopping mall in the fictional town of Willamette, Colorado, that is infested with zombies. Frank must defend himself from zombie attacks, rescue survivors, contend with crazed psychopaths, and stay alive while still attempting to uncover the truth behind the incident. The player controls Frank as he explores the mall, using any available object as a weapon. The player can complete several main and optional missions to earn Prestige Points (PP) and gain special abilities. The game is designed as a sandbox game and features several endings, depending on the decisions the player makes along the way.

Keiji Inafune, designer of Mega Man and Dead Rising, wanted the main character Frank West to be different from the usual Japanese main character. Instead of having a young and beautiful protagonist, he wanted an everyman that looked average rather than beautiful or ugly.^[8]

Frank’s default attire includes a black jacket with a white button-up shirt, green khaki pants, and brown loafers. Frank’s appearance can be altered throughout the game by visiting the various stores of the mall. These range from changing into business suits and dresses to donning different glasses and even children’s masks. Many of Dead Rising‘s costumes are references to other Capcom games such as Frank’s unlockable Arthur’s boxers from Ghosts ‘n Goblins, Mega Man X–style armor, and a Servbot head.

With summer just around the corner, Seattle welcomes the return of warm summer nights, boating afternoons, barbeques and…zombies? Yes, thousands of zombies will again return to Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood this Fourth of July weekend to walk and dance their way back into the history books during the second annual Red, White & Dead zombie walk. At stake? The zombie walk Guinness World Record currently held by the Big Chill Music Festival in England.

“This is all about a community celebration, having fun and supporting a great cause,” remarked Ryan Reiter, artistic director for Fremont Outdoor Cinemas. “But who doesn’t love some healthy competition and bragging rights? Not only do we hope to raise a lot of resources for local non-profits, but we want to take back our zombie world record title from England, and Independence Day weekend is an ideal time to do it, and independent-minded Fremont is a perfect backdrop to celebrate.”

But zombies don’t just take. This year’s event will also aptly include a blood drive, as well as a canned food drive to benefit Solid Ground. In addition, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the non-profit Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) in support of their new film center planned for Seattle Center.

We’re back to reclaim the title, and I hope to see 10,000 zombies roaming the streets, so Seattle will hold the title for good!”

Festivities kick-off midday, and include on-site zombie makeovers, a zombie fashion show, musical performances, special creepy guests, a massive group Thriller dance – with lessons by Seattle Thrillers group – and, of course, the huge zombie walk through the Dead Center of the Universe, Fremont.

The Walking Dead hanging at the Egyptian Theater for some Zombie Fun

On Friday, May 21st  - Fremont Outdoor Movies teamed up with the Seattle International Film Festival and ZomBcon to create one of the most unique movie experiences Seattle ever seen. In the honor of George A. Romero’s newest film SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD’s West Coast premiere at the Seattle International Film Festival, it seemed fiitting that a Zombie walk was in order. Thanks to Ryan Reiter, Artistic Director of the Fremont Outdoor Movies and ZomBcon, along with Eric Pope of the Seattle Zombie Walk that threw a great SIFF kick off party in Seattle’s popular Capitol Hill neighborhood at Boom Noodle.

“Talk about some serious fun at a film festival ” says Reiter who has worked with some of the most prestigious festivasl in the world like Sundance, AFI FEST, Los Angeles Film Festival and Vancouver International Film Festival in year’s past.

“You simply can not have this much fun at a film festival like you can at SIFF, they have been 100% supportive of supporting creative ideas in reaching an audience that offers an experience” mentions Reiter. This entire event was created by a grass roots effort built on fan participation and with this kind of response that is magnetic.

Over 200 people showed up for the party and hung out over drinks and jello brain shots to tame the appetites of the hungriest Zombies. The walk garnered some amazing shots that can be seen at the Facebook photo album here. SIFF screened the film to a sold out crowd for their midnight screening at the infamous Egyptian Theatre on Capitol Hill.

The event was organized by the Fremont Outdoor Movies, ZomBcon, Seattle International Film Festival and Seattle Zombie Walk.

Last year’s line up included E.T., Army of Darkness, Indiana Jones, Shaun of the Dead, and so many others.

The outdoor movie series is an ongoing summer long tradition for the past 18 years built around an exciting program of cult classics, pop favorites, cool shorts and pre-show entertainment that play to over 65,000 people every summer over a period of twelve weeks in Seattle and Los Angeles.

Last year’s highlights included, The Guinness World Record for the “Largest Zombie Walk in the World”, Lebowski Fest “Speed of Sound” Tour celebrating “Everything Lebowski” from the cult hit The Big Lebowski, from the Coen Brothers. We also hosted a huge Pillow Fight, and ended the season with one big Fremont Oktoberfest kick off with “Animal House” with a huge beer garden.

In 2009, we had our biggest year yet; producing over 20 events with over 45,000 people attending in the summer long series this season and we expect it be even bigger in 2010. Along with our large Social Media marketing campaign through Twitter and Facebook, we offer a huge promotional campaign that offers you more bang for your buck and reaches your audience faster and quicker.

This year’s festivities will return with a huge Thriller Dance, Zombie fashion show, musical performances, special guests and all time Zombie classic, George A. Romero’s DAWN OF THE DEAD. This year’ event will also include a blood drive, canned food drive and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the  local non profit organization, the Seattle International Film Festival in support of their new film center that will be at the Seattle Center.

Jon Hegeman, Founder of the Fremont Outdoor Movies tells us “This is all about community celebration, having fun, supporting a great cause and not about bragging rights; but who doesn’t love a little healthy rivalry for a great cause to make things more interesting? Fremont is the perfect neighborhood to celebrate such a fun accomplishment.”

In response to skeptics, Reiter says “There are a lot of people watching us who don’t think Seattle can do it, one being Grand Rapids, Michigan, who continue to claim they hold the Guinness World Record. It remains unofficial to this date…so I leave it to the people of Seattle to decide its fate to bring it back home. I know we can do it.”

This year the walk falls on a Saturday with the festivities starting a bit earlier to ensure people can have time to get their make-up done on-site. Participants can register online and make their $3.00 donation ahead of time to make their entrance to the event much faster and track our numbers to make the Guinness World Record submission much easier. People can register starting May 1st at the official ZomBcon website

Reiter talks about the magic of last year’s success by saying “It encouraged all of us tap into our inner Zombie, get dressed up, interact with their neighbors and indulge in fan culture; offering a positive spin on what a Zombie outbreak might just look like…and it looked pretty darn good.”

This year also marks the “Year of the Zombie” and Seattle seems to be the center of attention, as 2010 marks another first for Seattle with ZomBcon, the world’s first Zombie Culture Convention infecting Seattle on Halloween weekend at the Seattle Center and Experience Music Project with over 100 Exhibitors, 10 interactive fan workshops, panels, a SIFF-curated film series, and Halloween Masquerade , Zombie Prom party. We plan to have a collection of experts, authors, filmmakers, historians, celebrities and all the gear and fan fare for the Quintessential Zombie fan.

In the spirit of Halloween, The Fremont Outdoor Movies premiere the newest addition to the neighborhood next Friday, October 23rd with a FREE revival screening of “The Dark side of the Rainbow” inside Fremont Studios to kick things off.

ABOUT DARK SIDE OF THE RAINBOW

The Dark Side of the Rainbow (also known as Dark Side of Oz or The Wizard of Floyd) refers to the pairing of the 1973 Pink Floyd music album The Dark Side of the Moon with the visual portion of the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.[2] This produces moments where the film and the album appear to correspond with each other. The title of the music video-like experience comes from a combination of the album title and the film’s song “Over the Rainbow“. It is also a reference to the rainbow from a prism design on the cover of the Pink Floyd album. Band members and others involved in making of the album state that any relationship between the two works of art is merely a coincidence.

The Fremont neighborhood has done it again, first Zombies attack the neighborhood for a world record, now their teaming up with the gang at Lebowski Fest and the “Dude” himself is heading north for the return of Lebowski Fest in Seattle for their movie party.

The Fremont Chamber  is helping honor a fellow Achiever, with the “Keys to the Universe” before the Movie Screening at 5pm at the Fremont Troll. So why the keys to the Universe, you ask? Well this small artistic neighborhood has always touted itself as the “Center of the Universe” over the years, so it seemed fitting that we finally award the keys to a former Seattlite.

Jeff Dowd, aka the real life Jeff Lebowski, which the film is based loosely on is also a former Seattlite, part of the Seattle Seven, but his biggest claim ot fame is a cult movie icon among many movie fans for being the real life inspiration of the The Big Lebowski and we are honored that he will be joining us in Seattle for the return of Lebowski Fest.

The ceremony will take place prior to the show at 5pm at the Fremont Troll just below the Aurora bridge before the show kicks off. The keys will be presented by Jon Hegeman the Fremont Outdoor Cinema’s founder and Fremont’s Urban Mythologist,  with Marko Tubic the President of the Fremont  Chamber, along with Clover the Troll from the Fremont Arts Council officiating.

This will be the first time  the keys ever have been awarded. It marks the beginning of a new tradition in recognition of  Jeff Dowd’s outstanding example in the creation of a sustainable and compelling urban mythology and enduring character that’s epitomizes Fremont’s larger than life spirit and it’s motto: “Delibertus Quirkus: Freedom to be Peculiar.”

“People who are living large and making things happen, and capturing the imagination and whimsey of the world, need to be recognized and celebrated” says Hegeman.  Quoting someone famous,  ”If you’re not having fun you’re not playing the game right.” Seattle’ s Fremont, the Outdoor Cinema, the Arts Council and all Fremont’s quirky world famous icons from the Troll under the Aurora bridge to Lenin statues are all about Fun. That’s why Jeff’ big Lebwoski character is a perfect recipient to commence this tradition. He belongs here. The public is invited to attend at 5 at the foot of the troll the Troll under the Aurora bridge.

Jeff Dowd will be attending the Movie party after the ceremony at the Outdoor Cinema which begins at 6 pm with live music from Har Mar SuperStar, and features refeshments ( over 21). Movie will be hosted at Fremont Studios, the adjoining building where the screen is painted on, movie starts at 9pm.

Lebowski Fest is an annual festival begun in 2002 in Louisville, Kentucky celebrating Joel and Ethan Coen’s 1998 cult film The Big Lebowski, whose fans’ line memorization and creative attire rival those of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The Festival’s main event each year is a night of unlimited bowling with various contests including Costume, Trivia, Hardest and Farthest Travelled contests. Held over a weekend, events typically include a pre-fest party with bands the night before the bowling event as well as a “garden party” event (a day long outdoor party with bands, vendor booths, games) at the Louisville fest. Various celebrities from the film have attended some of the events, including Jeff Bridges, who attended the Los Angeles event. Thanks to all you Zombies that waited in line at the Red, White, and Dead Zombie Walk to make history and get your photo taken with local troupe, Night Zero , a photo comic book, or fumetti, produced on location in Seattle, Washington. It is a collaboratively-driven project that blends the talents of writers, actors, photographers, digital artists, and film crews, to create a graphic novel unlike any other.

NIGHT ZERO is produced like a feature film, shot on-location with a full cast and crew, complete with sets, props, and costumes. Using the emerging technology of High Dynamic Range photography (HDR) and a process called tonemapping, our digital artists are able to transform the images into a unique visual style somewhere between photography and illustration.There is no tracing or hand drawing superimposed on the photographs– the “illustrated” style is purely the result of the HDR photography method.

Lebowski Fest returns to Seattle on July 20th & 21st! The Fest kicks off with the Movie Party at the Fremont Outdoor Cinema with a performance by Har Mar Superstar, Jeff Dowd and white russian flavored popcorn on July 20th. The next night is the Bowling Party at ACME Bowl with bowling, beverages, costumes and what-have-you on July 21st.

Jeff Dowd, The Real Dude will also receive the honor of being inducted into Fremont neighborhood with the “Keys to the Universe” Ceremony preceding the show at 5pm at the Fremont Troll.
