Dead Rising‘s story centers on Frank West, a photojournalist who ends up trapped in a shopping mall in the fictional town of Willamette, Colorado, that is infested with zombies. Frank must defend himself from zombie attacks, rescue survivors, contend with crazed psychopaths, and stay alive while still attempting to uncover the truth behind the incident. The player controls Frank as he explores the mall, using any available object as a weapon. The player can complete several main and optional missions to earn Prestige Points (PP) and gain special abilities. The game is designed as a sandbox game and features several endings, depending on the decisions the player makes along the way.

Keiji Inafune, designer of Mega Man and Dead Rising, wanted the main character Frank West to be different from the usual Japanese main character. Instead of having a young and beautiful protagonist, he wanted an everyman that looked average rather than beautiful or ugly.^[8]

Frank’s default attire includes a black jacket with a white button-up shirt, green khaki pants, and brown loafers. Frank’s appearance can be altered throughout the game by visiting the various stores of the mall. These range from changing into business suits and dresses to donning different glasses and even children’s masks. Many of Dead Rising‘s costumes are references to other Capcom games such as Frank’s unlockable Arthur’s boxers from Ghosts ‘n Goblins, Mega Man X–style armor, and a Servbot head.

With summer just around the corner, Seattle welcomes the return of warm summer nights, boating afternoons, barbeques and…zombies? Yes, thousands of zombies will again return to Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood this Fourth of July weekend to walk and dance their way back into the history books during the second annual Red, White & Dead zombie walk. At stake? The zombie walk Guinness World Record currently held by the Big Chill Music Festival in England.

“This is all about a community celebration, having fun and supporting a great cause,” remarked Ryan Reiter, artistic director for Fremont Outdoor Cinemas. “But who doesn’t love some healthy competition and bragging rights? Not only do we hope to raise a lot of resources for local non-profits, but we want to take back our zombie world record title from England, and Independence Day weekend is an ideal time to do it, and independent-minded Fremont is a perfect backdrop to celebrate.”

But zombies don’t just take. This year’s event will also aptly include a blood drive, as well as a canned food drive to benefit Solid Ground. In addition, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the non-profit Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) in support of their new film center planned for Seattle Center.

We’re back to reclaim the title, and I hope to see 10,000 zombies roaming the streets, so Seattle will hold the title for good!”

Festivities kick-off midday, and include on-site zombie makeovers, a zombie fashion show, musical performances, special creepy guests, a massive group Thriller dance – with lessons by Seattle Thrillers group – and, of course, the huge zombie walk through the Dead Center of the Universe, Fremont.

Red, White & Dead is an annual event, made possible by generous donations from many local business entities. The Fremont Outdoor Movies is counting on all of Seattle to come out and represent their city to return the Guinness World Record back to its rightful owner and crown Seattle the “Zombie Capital of the World” once and for all in the Dead Center of the Universe – Fremont.

The Zombie walk world record is 4,026 and currently held by the Big Chill Music Festival in the England, which narrowly edged out Seattle’s 3,894 last August. The Fremont neighborhood has done it again, first Zombies attack the neighborhood for a world record, now their teaming up with the gang at Lebowski Fest and the “Dude” himself is heading north for the return of Lebowski Fest in Seattle for their movie party.

The Fremont Chamber  is helping honor a fellow Achiever, with the “Keys to the Universe” before the Movie Screening at 5pm at the Fremont Troll. So why the keys to the Universe, you ask? Well this small artistic neighborhood has always touted itself as the “Center of the Universe” over the years, so it seemed fitting that we finally award the keys to a former Seattlite.

Jeff Dowd, aka the real life Jeff Lebowski, which the film is based loosely on is also a former Seattlite, part of the Seattle Seven, but his biggest claim ot fame is a cult movie icon among many movie fans for being the real life inspiration of the The Big Lebowski and we are honored that he will be joining us in Seattle for the return of Lebowski Fest.

The ceremony will take place prior to the show at 5pm at the Fremont Troll just below the Aurora bridge before the show kicks off. The keys will be presented by Jon Hegeman the Fremont Outdoor Cinema’s founder and Fremont’s Urban Mythologist,  with Marko Tubic the President of the Fremont  Chamber, along with Clover the Troll from the Fremont Arts Council officiating.

This will be the first time  the keys ever have been awarded. It marks the beginning of a new tradition in recognition of  Jeff Dowd’s outstanding example in the creation of a sustainable and compelling urban mythology and enduring character that’s epitomizes Fremont’s larger than life spirit and it’s motto: “Delibertus Quirkus: Freedom to be Peculiar.”

“People who are living large and making things happen, and capturing the imagination and whimsey of the world, need to be recognized and celebrated” says Hegeman.  Quoting someone famous,  ”If you’re not having fun you’re not playing the game right.” Seattle’ s Fremont, the Outdoor Cinema, the Arts Council and all Fremont’s quirky world famous icons from the Troll under the Aurora bridge to Lenin statues are all about Fun. That’s why Jeff’ big Lebwoski character is a perfect recipient to commence this tradition. He belongs here. The public is invited to attend at 5 at the foot of the troll the Troll under the Aurora bridge.

Jeff Dowd will be attending the Movie party after the ceremony at the Outdoor Cinema which begins at 6 pm with live music from Har Mar SuperStar, and features refeshments ( over 21). Movie will be hosted at Fremont Studios, the adjoining building where the screen is painted on, movie starts at 9pm.

Lebowski Fest is an annual festival begun in 2002 in Louisville, Kentucky celebrating Joel and Ethan Coen’s 1998 cult film The Big Lebowski, whose fans’ line memorization and creative attire rival those of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The Festival’s main event each year is a night of unlimited bowling with various contests including Costume, Trivia, Hardest and Farthest Travelled contests. Held over a weekend, events typically include a pre-fest party with bands the night before the bowling event as well as a “garden party” event (a day long outdoor party with bands, vendor booths, games) at the Louisville fest. Various celebrities from the film have attended some of the events, including Jeff Bridges, who attended the Los Angeles event. 7 stylists, 7 Heads, 1 Night for some seriously fun hair! Come out and rep your ‘hood to cheer on your local stylists, as the winner will be selected by our audience by our “Applause “O” Meter.

Presented by the Fremont Outdoor Movies and XBOX 360, we kick off our season off right, with some seriously good old fashion summer fun.

Put on dancing shoes, grab your friends, and sing along to the irrepressible ABBA music in the lush green Magnuson Meadows for an unforgettably fun evening. The perfect date movie!

Doors open at 7:30pm, with games and trivia starting at 8pm with our host Doug Willot, from Jet City Improv.

Backyard Barbeque: Come early and catch our neighboring event, with over a dozen barbeque sauce makers looking to win you over wit their tasty inventions.

Festivities include:

1.Musical Movie Madness Trivia – Fly solo or Team Up for fun prizes with our new weekly trivia contest supplied by the experts at SCARECROW Video The winner will receive the ULTIMATE MUSICAL DVD SURVIVAL KIT with the essentials to any musical movie lover.

2.ABBA Idol! Karaoke Contest – It’s American Idol to music of ABBA. Special guest judges here to help pick the SOLSTICE DANCING QUEEN Singer. 5 will play, but only one will win the Crown (yes, you will be crowned in front of everyone) and win their very own XBOX 360 complete. Sign up will take place on the night of event and space is limited Tell the door babe you want to be a contestant. Be there by 8 Pm.

3.MOVIE PHOTO BOOTH – Be an instant neighborhood celebrity and find your self on Flickr! Our fabulous Instant photo booth is back and its FREE! We supply the goofy get–ups, wigs, props, and backdrop, you supply the Kodak moment!

4.CHURCH OF ABBA – Presided over by celebrated and extraordinary Rev. Chumleigh who will lead motivated members from the audience in a light hearted mass (Moonie style) re-commitment or renewal of vows ceremony just before show time as only the reverend can serve it up.
